Logfire Holidays Gwenoldy

I have just had a really lovely weekend away at Logfire Holidays, Gwenoldy, near Mold in North Wales.

Back in February Nicola who owns Logfire Holidays ran a giveaway competition on her Instagram account to win a stay in their new addition - a shepherd hut... and I won! I decided to go with my cousin as it had been ages since we had enjoyed a good catch up and we had a fab time.

I managed to do lots of drawings and we also found time to do a 1000 piece jigsaw I took, listened to an audio book at the same time, and while sketching and creating.

Nicola keeps chickens, which freely wonder around the place during the day. There is the Shepherds Hut, the wagon and a holiday cottage as well as lovely grounds and gardens in between for them to peck about in. I couldn't wait to draw them!

Luckily they were quite interested in what we were up to when we were sitting by the fire bit having a gin and tonic and some crisps, so I took the opportunity to get sketching.

From this starting point I just continued to draw the chickens! I had a mini Chicken exhibition when I returned home!

The steps of the Shepherds Hut were perfect for perching to draw.

These ones (above) are drawn using one of my homemade feather quills that I took with me. I've always loved the work of Quentin Blake and these felt pleasingly similar.

This chicken extravaganza (egg-stravaganza) I then folded and snipped to form a little book - this blog post is running out of space so I'll try and photograph it folded up and add it at a later date!

This one was drawn quickly with a big permanent pen and then coloured using a mix of watercolour and coloured pencils / and a gold 'woody' by stabilo.

The final chicken drawing of Saturday - a mix of watercolours and colour pencils with some pastel thrown in too!

I started this blog post with the intention of telling you all about Logfire Holidays and their accommodation but as you can see, I got distracted by the chickens, both there and here!

We stayed in Emily Rose, the Shepherds Hut - which was so comfortable, clean and with everything we could want - electric, a two ring hob, kettle, toaster, fridge, woodburner (too warm to need it), composting toilet just outside (and a flushing loo and shower no distance away).

Next door to us but nicely hidden is this beauty - another accommodation option. In addition to this there is a cottage too - you can find out about all of these on the Logfire Holidays Gwenoldy website. (This isn't sponsored, I just had a lovely time there and feel very grateful to have had the chance to stay there!).
