  • 2023 in review

A year in review. I have made this list of 23 things about 2023 that I can think of, in any old non-chronological order! Some really frivolous things and others more significant to the development of my art practice. It has been fun to do and useful at the start of 2024 to consciously think about what I want to put into this year.
  • Christmas Open Studios - save the date!

Just a quick one to say ‘save the date!’

Our Christmas Open Studios trail will be on Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th December 2022 from 10am-3pm.

Aardvark books will be holding their Christmas Fair on the Sunday too so well worth coming to visit the village!

There are many artists in the village of Brampton Bryan, but most work quietly behind closed doors. This is an opportunity to visit the studios and do a bit of Christmas shopping. We’ll be making some flyers soon to tell you all about those involved.

  • Scarecrow Sunday Open Studios event!

Scarecrow Sunday is an annual event in the village of Brampton Bryan where my studio is based. You can read all about it on the village website here.

Lots of people visit the village on that day and so we have decided to do our Summer Open Studios event on the same day too!

  • March meet the maker - part 2

Hello! The second March meet the maker blog post. Today I'm going to cover the posts that have happened since I was last here as I haven't been posting on Instagram this year.

So, we have 5 prompts today -

    - Newest make

    - Work in progress

    - Learning curve

    - Small detail

    - Portrait.

    Here we go!

  • Inspiration station

I have created an 'inspiration station' or mood board /zone or just an area of my studio dedicated to things I want to be looking at.

The idea was suggested by my good friend Louise who I sat back to back with on our Art Foundation year. One of the biggest joys of that year was having a space that had 3 walls that surrounded you and you were encouraged to fill it with things that inspired you, that you were working on, ideas you were playing around with all part of the project or brief you were working on. At the end of that project the whole lot would come down and the white walls would return as the new project started. Soon it would be filled with the colours and ideas for the next phase.

  • Beginner's Botanical Watercolour Workshops...

This workshop came about because I use watercolours to work in. People have asked how I create my artwork and so I have been trying to break my process down into stages - and in this case, workshops.

As teaching watercolour is such a huge topic and not actually possible in just an hour and a half to two hours, I wrote this workshop with that timescale in mind. What we have is a bite sized introduction to the medium of watercolour. During the workshop we play about with basic watercolour techniques and start to build confidence using the paint

  • A big move

I have news. I'm getting a studio space! as of February 1st (everything crossed). You may not know, but I currently work predominantly from a small...
