Mainly Fair - the undemonstrative terms of the Shipping forecast – Alice Draws The Line

Mainly Fair

I enjoy the fact that the forecast is undemonstrative.

This in itself makes me smile and it’s why I called this body of work ‘Moderate or Good’- you don’t get wildly enthusiastic fanfare titles in the Shipping Forecast, just a calm, nod of the head type of equivalent.

One of my favourite pieces is called ‘Mainly Fair’. My interpretation is, that with all life’s ups and downs, if the general synopsis in terms of the forecast is Mainly Fair, then that’s pretty good going.

It’s fascinating to work with a limited vocabulary and I don’t feel finished with this work yet.

The exhibition is on until the 14th July at The Courtyard in Hereford, which opens from 10am Monday-Saturday and is closed on Sundays.

The calendar, tea towels and cards are also available here on my website.
